Early Life, Family & Education
On August 11, 1967, Joe Rogan was born to his parents in Newark, New Jersey. His ancestors are partly Italian and partly Irish. His father’s name is Joseph and he used to be a Newark police officer. Joe’s parents ended their marriage when he was five years old. He has not spoken to his father since the age of seven.
In 1985, Rogan completed his high school education at Newton South High School. Afterward, he attended the University of Massachusetts Boston but decided to drop out.
Career
A childhood experience inspired Rogan to become a professional stand-up comedian. His parents visited a cinema hall with the kid Rogan to see the film Live on the Sunset Strip. The film starred comedian Richard Pryor and made a lasting impression on the kid Joe.
Joe would often tell jokes to his gym and Taekwondo friends and made them laugh. Encouraged by his friends’ responses, Joe decided to perform at comedy clubs. He gave his first stand-up performance on August 27, 1988, at Boston’s Stitches comedy club. He had spent six months practicing and preparing before delivering the performance.
Rogan began his UFC career by working backstage and after-fight interviewer. He debuted at UFC 12: Judgement Day in Dothan, Alabama on February 7, 1997. His interest in Brazilian jiu-jitsu was stimulated in 1994 when he saw Royce Gracie’s performance at UFC 2: No Way Out.
